New England Vacation Day Five

We left Boston today and drove north into New Hampshire. We went back to the airport and rented a car and within a few hours we were deep in the White Mountains. We meandered around and saw covered bridges and waterfalls, picturesque towns and the very beginning of fall colors. We had blackberry ice cream at the oldest general store in the country and ate dinner at a country diner in Lincoln, N.H.

It lightly rained off and on all day, including on our hike in Franconia Notch State Park. We walked uphill, on a wooden boardwalk with many stairs through the Flume Gorge.

We statyed the night at Lovett's Inn in Franconia. This inn is old, with lots of charm, but few modern touches.
